Greetings Hillsdale Middle School Music Alumni!

This is to inform you of, and invite you to join, the new alumni association for the Hillsdale music department – “Encore HMS”.

What is it?
 
“Encore HMS” is the name of the alumni association for Hillsdale Middle School Music Department, created as an outreach program in cooperation with the Hillsdale Music Department Parent Association (HMDPA).

What is the purpose?

The purpose in forming such an organization is two-fold:  First, as an avenue for preserving the connection between Hillsdale’s Music Department and the community of former Hillsdale music students, parent association members, families and staff;  Second, as a vehicle for promoting the continuance of musical endeavors by both Hillsdale Music Department and the former students who participated in its program. 

Why should there be a link between present and former HMS music participants?

A mutually beneficial relationship can result from developing new ways of supporting school, students, and graduates through communicating, mentoring, and performing.  Former students pursuing studies and careers in music related fields speak volumes about a program’s worth to school administrators and district officials.  Parents and supporters of music in the middle school can continue that interest as they move out into the larger community.  Information regarding concerts, recordings, and achievements by both school and individual performers can be promoted by way of an alumni association.

Who can join?

Former Hillsdale students that participated in a music department sponsored class or group, parents or guardians and supporters of Hillsdale music department participants, former HMDPA officers, committee chairs, or members, and previously employed staff or assistants within the music department program.

How do I join?

A simple response via email or telephone will put your name on the list for inclusion in an “Encore HMS” data base.  An email address will ensure you are kept updated on the events, activities, and opportunities for supporting Hillsdale music department and its students – past, present, and future!

Just about all of us have felt the effects of a challenged economy – and our schools have been hit hard as well, especially in areas like the arts and music.  As you know from first hand experience, Hillsdale Middle School is one of the shining examples of how kids can experience musical education at its best.  Hillsdale Music Department Parent Association continues to support the music program, but in the face of new losses in funding from disappearing state resources and retroactive district reallocations they are looking at some serious revenue issues.  In plain language, Hillsdale Music needs our help!

For one week only you can start your holiday shopping AND give a gift to the current students of Hillsdale Music!  Follow the directions below to purchase cards, send in payment, and then give yourself a ‘high five’ for doing two good deeds at one time.

Encore HMS” is the name of the alumni association for Hillsdale Middle School Music Department, created as an outreach program in cooperation with the Hillsdale Music Department Parent Association (HMDPA).  It was created in 2008 as a way to continue the connection -  with former Hillsdale students that participated in a music department sponsored class or group, parents or guardians and supporters of Hillsdale music department participants, former HMDPA officers, committee chairs, or members, and previously employed staff or assistants within the music department program.

In a nutshell, as one of the former presidents for the Hillsdale Music Department Parent Association, it was my desire to continue to promote and serve the music department and music students and parents - both former and current.  The importance of the music program that Spencer Caldwell has built at Hillsdale is worthy of  support in all kinds of ways - socially, financially, creatively, personally.  I'm sure those of you who enjoyed the positive experience of HMS music would agree.
