Show Choir -
Mr. Caldwell Director with Geoff Nigl Accompanist

This ensemble will learn vocal techniques with an emphasis on Show Choir concepts including dancing and showmanship. They will study many styles of music including Classical, Pop, and Jazz.

Course Description
Show Choir will perform regular concerts for the school and parents. Most ensembles will perform in two local festivals, Disneyland "Community Arts Showcase" an overnight "Music in the Parks" at Magic Mountain. Students will also be encouraged to perform at Solo Festivals, and audition for County and State Honor Groups.

Vocal Ensemble (Show Choir)
The visual appearance of a performance ensemble is an important part of its concert. The music can be enhanced with uniformity and shows a certain professionalism. The following dress codes have been set up to provide for different performances and occasions. This attire is crucial and students not properly attired may be eliminated from that performance. (especially Disneyland and Festivals)

Boys:
Black Dress pants
Blue Sparkle vest $45
Black mandarin Button Down Shirt.
Black Socks
Black Dress Shoes

Girls:
Dress (Custom fitted) $75 (see order form)

Events Descriptions

Students who fundraise or donate their first “Activity Contribution”  of at least $40 by Sept 14th may elect to use their “Transportation Voucher” to reduce the cost by $30 of one of the following:  Disneyland "Community Arts Showcase",  Recording Session Workshop, "Music in the Parks",  (see page2 of packet for incentive details)

Festival
Usually takes place at a local High School and is during the school day. Students will be excused from school but will be required to make up any missing school work. I will allow students to use the class period if needed to visit teachers directly after a performance to make-up work or lectures. Students will perform in their formal attire. Judges will give us written and taped comments. There is usually also a clinic or a sight-reading session. These events are free to the public and are very educational. We receive ratings (best to worst) of Superior, Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor. (These are mandatory performances and equal 40% of the academic grade) There is no direct cost to students for these activities. This is paid for out of the HMDPA budget

Disneyland "Community Arts Showcase"
Disneyland selects schools based on an audition video. This is not a guaranteed activity. Disneyland, in exchange for our public performance allows the students to enjoy the day in the park for free. Students will be asked to help pay for busses. Free if you choose to use your Transportation Voucher.

Disneyland Recording Session Workshop
We will be taking the Beginning and Intermediate Band students to a Music Workshop behind the Scenes at Disneyland. This is an amazing workshop where students get to record Disney music and watch their music to actual Disney scenes.  Cost is approx. $95 ea.. ($30 reduction in cost if you use Transportation Voucher)

"Music in the Parks" This is a festival (see above) where the entire department earns ratings and competes for trophies. This is a rare opportunity for the Vocal and Instrumental students to cheer each other on. Schools come from all over the US. The $160 dollars approximate cost includes two or three  meals, Entrance into the park, Quad occupancy Hotel, Transportation, and the Adjudicated Festival. We typically perform Friday night at a High School near the park.  Stay in a secure hotel. We hire additional Security Guards. Saturday is "free time" in the park with an Awards ceremony on stage TBA.  Students must have Good Citizenship in all classes (C and Higher), no more the 3 Referrals across campus, and a good grade in music to be included on this trip. The Parent Association provides a safe and secure trip and more information as dates become available. Transportation Vouchers can be used to reduce this cost by $30.
